Applications

Cooling water

Overheating of equipment leads to increased wear and eventually to production downtime. Continuous monitoring of cooling water ensures process reliability for such applications.

The low-profile design allows you to monitor cooling water supply and return lines in close manifolds. The magnetic inductive technology provides high accuracy at an affordable price.

Welding

When welding tips get too hot, the quality of the weld declines, leading to premature part failure. Mechanical flow switches have moving parts that can stick or break off.

The SM magmeter can provide a simple switch point with a response time < 150 msec, so loss of flow is quickly confirmed.

Furnaces

Flow rate of cooling water supply and return lines can be monitored to ensure enough flow is present. Monitoring the temperature of the cooling water supply can be just as important.

ifm’s magmeters provide flow rate, total volume and water temperature with a single instrument, eliminating the need for a dedicated temperature transmitter.

Die casting

Controlling the amount of cooling water to a die is critical for the solidification and quality of the molded part. The cooling water supply must be monitored 24/7 to ensure the highest quality.

The SM magmeter is easy to install and it can be configured in less than five minutes using the intuitive pushbutton menu.

Test stands

Accurate measurement of inlet and outlet water volume is critical for test stations designed to detect leaks. Volumetric flow rate is often very low in these applications. Instruments to measure with such resolution can be expensive and difficult to set up.

The pulse output of the SM magmeter can deliver resolution of 0.03 ounces per pulse.

Polymer flow

The wastewater industry uses polymers to separate solids from water. The common industry solution is a mechanical paddle wheel which is unreliable due to sticking and breaking of the paddles. Other solutions include large bulky magmeters that are expensive and difficult to set up.

Ifm’s magnetic inductive technology provides accurate and reliable measurement of flow rate and total flow and it is configured in less than five minutes using the pushbutton interface.

Chemical dosing

Accurate control of chemicals added into the water is critical to maintain the quality of the water. Instruments used for this application can be very expensive to provide the required precision.

The pulse output of the SM magmeter can deliver resolution of 0.03 ounces per pulse with an accuracy of ~1%.
