Product returns

ifm's goal is to contribute to our customers' success by providing innovative solutions. If you need to return a product, however, the following guidelines will help you through the return process and provide you with a printable return-shipping label.

Please note that all returns require an R&A number. Non-warranty R&A numbers can be requested by calling Customer Service at 800-441-8246 or via email at cs.us@ifm.com. Warranty R&A numbers can be requested by filling out the self-service form below. Products that are returned to ifm without an R&A number will be returned to the sender at the sender's expense.

Guidelines for Non-Warranty Returns (non-warranty returns are ordering errors, shipping errors, etc):

  • All returns related to non-warranty issues must be unused, free from damage, and returned to our warehouse in like-new condition.
  • Original PO#, part numbers, and quantity being returned must be given at the time of R&A issue.  Special order items cannot be returned.
  • Return only the products that are specified on the R&A.  Other products will be shipped back to the sender at the sender's expense.
  • Products must be returned in their original boxes/bags, including all original documentation, accessories, and components. Do not mark or write on the product boxes/bags to avoid restocking fees.  
  • Return all parts within 2 weeks of R&A issuance.
  • Shipping box must be labeled with the R&A number clearly marked on the outside of the box (or use the attached label). Do not mark or write on the product boxes/bags to avoid restocking fees.  
  • The sender is responsible for the cost of the shipment as well as ensuring it arrives safely and undamaged to our warehouse. We recommend insuring the shipment for the full cost of the products being returned.

Standard return guidelines:

  • Shipments that do not follow the above guidelines may incur additional refurbishing fees or be returned to the sender without processing.
  • ifm safety products, excluding safety light curtains, can not be returned if the packaging seal has been broken as these products can not be resold as a certified safety product.

Guidelines for Warranty Returns (warranty returns are for products used in service that no longer function as expected):

  • Original PO#, part numbers, and quantity being returned must be given at the time of R&A issue.
  • Failure symptoms and application details must be provided for each product being returned.
  • If a written evaluation report on the failure is required, this must be noted at the time of R&A issue. 
  • Return only the products that are specified on the R&A. Other products will be shipped back to the sender at the sender's expense.
  • Return all parts within 2 weeks of R&A issuance.
  • Shipping box must be labeled with the R&A number clearly marked on the outside of the box (or use the attached label).
