  1. SM magmeters
  2. IO-Link benefits

When paired with devices like the SM magmeter, IO-Link technology ensures efficient flow metering applications for conductive media. This combination increases efficiency, reliability, process transparency, and cost savings for industrial applications ranging from breweries to welding.

IO-Link and SM magmeters

From monitoring cooling water supply lines to ensuring the quality of brewed beverages, integrating IO-Link with ifm's line of magmeters integration ensures efficient flow metering applications for conductive media, maximizing machine uptime, and ensuring top-notch product quality.

Combining IO-Link with SM magmeter technology provides:

Multi-value transmission through one connection

The SM magmeters can provide 3 different process values: flow rate, flow volume, and medium temperature.  Traditional wiring of the SM is limited to 2 outputs in specific combinations. IO-Link streamlines wiring to provide all 3 process values over a single industry standard M12 connector.

Increased measuring range

When used with IO-Link, a 20% increase in flow rate and temperature measurements are available.

Pure digital signal

IO-Link delivers a pure digital signal with no accuracy losses A/D conversions.

High resolution with no scaling required

Because there is no inaccuracies and losses associated with A/D signal conversion, the resolution of the measured process value over IO-Link is consistent across the entire measuring range.

Enchanced machine uptime

IO-Link’s masters remember all parameters of their connected devices, therefore the sensors are easily replaced with automatic device identification. Automatic recognition of sensor type, configuration, and communication parameters makes  installations straightforward, efficient, and fast.

Calibration

Diagnostics on demand

Parameters such as device and output status, operating hours, high and low value memory, and others are available with a simple call to the PLC.

Data structure and process values

Process data structure may be different for your specific part number. Please refer to the IODD pdf on the datasheet page.
