Applications for door safety switches

Monitor doors of a feeding machine with RFID safety switches

These doors separate operators from the hazardous motion of a feeding machine and still provide easy authorized access for maintenance. During operation, the door must remain closed at all times in order to protect operators from potential injuries and other incidences. When an unauthorized door opening occurs, the control system must stop the operation immediately.

ifm‘s non-contact RFID coded safety switches are mounted to each door and each actuator is paired with a safety sensor taught to recognize the actuator‘s unique RFID code.

  • Highest safety level against manipulation ensures safe operation at all time.
  • Clear visible LEDs indicating the status of operations. It will recognize an uncertain state that may indicate unsafe issues such as a loose or slightly ajar door.
  • Realization of real-time maintenance that will increase machine availability and reduce safety risks.
  • Long service life and highly reliable due to wear-free design

Monitor multiple doors in large machine systems

In large machines with multiple doors requiring protection, complexity and integration cost increases exponentially.

ifm‘s non-contact safety door switches can be connected, wired, and integrated with ease in large machine systems. Modular design increases flexibility and cost effectiveness.

  • Only one PLC input is needed for sensors connected in series.
  • Installation and integration costs are reduced.
  • Machine uptime is improved.
