O5D laser distance sensors: Applications

The O5D laser distance sensor has a variety of applications in a diverse range of industries. 

Level in mail sortation bins

Bins collect parcels of mail that have been sorted at high speed for further delivery. When the bins are full, they are manually removed and replaced with an empty bin. Failure to quickly locate and remove the full bins slow down the throughput of the sortation machine. Traditional sensors with short ranges can be damaged by the parcels.

The O5D sensor offers a 2 m sensing range to detect the level in the bin from a safe operating distance. With the pmd time-of-flight technology, the O5D sensors detect shiny, matte, dark or light surfaces of any color reliably. Using IO-Link, the actual distance information is available, making it useful for detecting missing lids.
