All holidaymakers who have ever been on the road with a motorhome probably know the situation: you arrive at your destination after a long drive and are ready to sit back and relax, but then you notice that your motorhome’s parking space is uneven. This can cause objects to slide around inside the motorhome or prevent certain appliances in the kitchen and bathroom from working properly. So the holiday can only really begin when the vehicle is parked perfectly level. The first step in solving these problems is to align or level the motorhome on an uneven surface. There are several ways of doing this.

The simplest - but at the same time not always the most effective - method is to use levelling ramps, which are easy to transport in the motorhome and are always available. They are needed in appropriate widths, with the shape and the number of steps determining which bumps are levelled. However, as the ramps can be more or less driven over their effect is limited to the height created.

Another levelling method is to place air cushions under the wheels and inflate them. It is best to choose a surface free of sharp edges and make sure that the weight of the vehicle can be lifted by the air pump. The amount of air can then be adjusted to the required height.

The most impressive and popular feature for permanent campers, however, is the lifting support system, which is available in manual, electric and hydraulic versions. The built-in supports easily raise the four wheels to the required height and level the motorhome perfectly. The vehicle remains in the desired position without moving. The hydraulic version is quite expensive, but is fully automatic and therefore the most convenient way of levelling.

While the parent company develops the “ewolift” products, the subsidiary company ASIMO GmbH installs the lifting systems. The integrated ifm BasicDisplay CR0451 is used for easy control of the entire levelling process and for measuring and displaying axle loads and total weight. The ifm BasicController CR0403 is an important part of the controllable system and is also located in the concealed control box, which forms the technical hub of the lifting system. With the help of the two ifm JN2101 inclination sensors, the display and the controller establish the functions to ensure the stability of the motorhome.
