Device configuration for SM flow meters

The information on this page will help guide you through key programming steps for the SM magmeters from ifm.

Configuration basics for the SM magmeters

All of ifm's process sensors, including the SM series flow meters, use similar terminology for programming. We highlight the features used most often here. Refer to the Operating Instructions manual found under the "Downloads" tab at the product datasheet page for more details on these and other features.

Configuration with free moneo software

moneo | configure is a user-friendly software package that enables easy programming and visualization of all ifm IO-Link enabled sensors (V1.0 and V1.1) as well as other manufacturers' IO-Link enabled sensors (V1.1).  The software can be downloaded here: moneo | configure.

Smart phone running the moneo blue app and the EIO330 bluetooth adapter

moneo | blue is an app that runs on your Apple or Android smart phones and provides access to all parameters, process values and diagnostics from all sensors connected to an IO-Link master. The Bluetoothâ„¢ adapter, EIO330, connects to one port of the IO-Link master and the app can be downloaded free of charge from the Apple App Store or from Google play.

Programming using pushbuttons

Identify your magmeter

There are 3 styles of SM magmeters and their pushbutton functions are different. Please select your meter below and click on "Programming instructions" for details.

SM 6 / 7 / 8 with TFT display

The SM meters with the TFT display shows flow rate, temperature and total flow all at a glance. Other display indications:

  1. LED for switching status of output 1
  2. LED for switching status of output 2
  3. Display showing current process values or menu / parameters for setup
  4. Up / down arrows for selecting parameters and changing parameter values
  5. Enter button to enter the programming menu and confirm the parameter setting value

The following illustrate the most common programming required for flow meter applications. Refer to the Operating Instructions manual found under the "Downloads" tab at the product datasheet page for more details on these and other features.

SM 2 / 9 with LED display

These SM flow meters monitor flow rate, temperature and total flow, but only display one of these process values at a time. Other display indications:

  • LEDs 1...6 indicate selected units of measure for process values.
  • LEDs 7 and 8 indicate switching status of outputs
  • 9: 4-digit alphanumeric display for indication of process values, parameters and parameter values
  • 10: Enter button: Use to select parameter and confirm the setting
  • 11: Up/down arrow buttons: Use to change parameter values. Remember to confirm setting by pressing Enter button.

SM 4 / 6 / 7 / 8 with LED display

These SM flow meters monitor flow rate, temperature and total flow, but only display one of these process values at a time. Other display indications:

  • LEDs 1...6 indicate selected units of measure for process values.
  • LEDs 7 and 8 indicate switching status of outputs
  • 9: 4-digit alphanumeric display for indication of process values, parameters and parameter values
  • 10: Mode / Enter button: Use Mode to select parameter and Enter to confirm the setting
  • 11: Set button: Use to change parameter values. Remember to confirm setting by pressing Enter button.
