Connectivity

Connect data from plant floor

To transfer data from sensors on the plant floor to the cloud, IIoT devices are needed. Ethernet field modules, also known as IO-Link masters, serve as gateways, connecting up to eight IO-Link devices such as sensors, valves, or I/O modules. The IO-Link master then connects to the edgeGateway, providing a secure remote connection to your IT infrastructure for seamless data transfer to cloud platforms like ifm moneo, Microsoft Azure IoT Hub, or AWS IoT Core.

Choose the connection that fits your setup

ifm's edgeGateway makes internet connectivity simple by supporting Ethernet, WiFi, and cellular.

Whether you're operating in a well-connected facility, a mobile installation, or a remote field site, you can reliably send critical machine and sensor data from the edge to the cloud.

LTE cellular

For installations without access to a local network, LTE provides a direct cellular connection to the cloud. Pair the edgeGateway with ifm’s rugged LTE industrial router, compatible with any nano SIM card, so you can use the provider that best fits your location.

Benefits:

  • Provides cloud access in off-grid or remote areas

  • Operates independently of on-site infrastructure

  • Flexible network provider selection via private SIM

WiFi network

In applications where wired connections are impractical, WiFi allows for convenient wireless connectivity. Use your existing WiFi router to enable cloud access without additional cabling.

Benefits:

  • Wireless installation for ease and mobility

  • Integrates with existing WiFi infrastructure

  • Ideal for mobile or modular system layouts

LAN (Ethernet)

If you have an established local network, Ethernet provides a straightforward, wired connection for cloud integration. It’s well suited for stable environments with existing network infrastructure.

Benefits:

  • Uses existing LAN infrastructure

  • Consistent and secure connection

  • Supports continuous data transfer needs
