LMT Sanitary level sensors: Installation guidelines

The LMT sensors are easy to apply with few installation recommendations. Review the video below.

Adapters / fittings

Always use ifm adapters for mounting. The sanitary seal is created by the metal lip inside the adapter sealing directly on the PEEK sensor tip for the LMT sensors with short probes (LMT100, LMT110 and LMT121).

Mounting locations

Avoid mounting in positions where product may not drain thoroughly and cause buildup. While the sensor may be tuned to ignore the buildup, there may be some products / installations where this is not possible.  In the image below, avoid locations labeled “1”.

O-rings

As noted above, the hygienic seal is formed by the metal-to-PEEK sealing system for the LMT100, LMT110 and LMT121. An o-ring does not come with these sensors; however, one comes with the adapters. This o-ring seals the gap on the back between the sensor and the adapter and it protects contamination from outside the process getting into the thread area. Do not use o-rings with a larger cross section or multiple o-rings as this will compromise the metal-to-PEEK seal.

The LMT sensors with longer probes, LMT104 and LMT105, come with a green flat seal. This seal can be used non-hygienic installations. For a hygienic installation, a metal-to-PEEK seal is required. The E43323 accessory is used to create the metal-to-PEEK seal.

  • Replace the green flat seal (1) with the black flat seal (4) that comes with the E43323.
  • Slide the E43323 onto the sealing cone until you feel the end stop.
  • Screw the sensor into the appropriate adapter. Do not use the o-ring that comes with the adapter in this case.

NOTE: The LMT104 and LMT105 have a captive o-ring where the PEEK tip meets the probe and this o-ring is not replaceable or serviceable. For this reason, the LMT104 and LMT105 do not meet 3A design standards and we cannot display the 3A mark on these products. They should only be used in hygienic applications where 3A authorization is not required.
