Speed monitoring and evaluation with the DP2122

A sensor can detect switching cams mounted on a shaft and output a square-wave signal at the frequency at which the cams are detected. From this signal, the speed can be determined. This can be done on different devices, such as a PLC, our displays for monitoring of pulse-shaped signals, the speed monitors, the DP2122 or our compact speed monitors.

Out of the listed options, you should opt for DP2122 if you are looking for:

  • free sensor choice, photoelectric, inductive, capacitive, ...
  • reduced wiring effort through evaluation directly in the field
  • local speed display

This converter can be operated with or without IO-Link.

Application example IO-Link speed converter

Without IO-Link, the orange caps on the device serve as four pushbuttons for parameter setting. They can be used to define switching conditions for the two digital outputs, which inform you in a simple way whether your speeds are within the desired range. The determined speed is also shown on the display.

With IO-Link, you obtain the determined speed/frequency values and the “good”/”bad” results of the speed evaluation in the process data via the defined switching conditions.
