O6 photoelectric sensor: Applications

The O6 photoelectric sensor based on reliable photoelectric sensing technology, delivers precise, reliable object detection across a wide range of industrial applications. With a sensing range of 30–200 mm and immunity to target color or background reflectivity, the O6H sensor models with background suppression are ideal for detecting white and black targets with consistent accuracy. Whether it's ensuring smooth operation on packaging lines, detecting edges of moving materials, or operating in washdown environments, the O6 sensor’s compact design, visible red LED, and robust IP69K-rated housing provide dependable performance even in the most challenging conditions.

Test the performance of the O6H background suppression sensors on white and black targets.  The sensing ranges are 30 – 200 mm.

Part presence / detection

Carton and box detection on packaging line

Accurate detection of boxes on a packaging line is essential to prevent conveyor jams and maintain smooth process flow, while precise counting of filled cartons is critical to ensure complete and accurate packaging.

In food and beverage plants, stainless steel machine construction often creates highly reflective environments that confuse standard photoelectric sensors.

The O6 photoelectric sensor uses advanced background suppression to eliminate false signals caused by shiny surfaces, such as conveyor belts or stainless steel machinery. Detection remains stable regardless of box color or material, increasing system uptime and reducing the need for sensor adjustments during production changes involving different package colors or materials.

A user-friendly potentiometer allows for quick switchpoint setting, and an additional potentiometer sets the output to normally-open or normally-closed, simplifying commissioning and maintenance.

Part presence and bin detection

The O6 sensor delivers exceptional part presence detection, even for worn or discolored bins. Its powerful red LED and high-performance optics enable consistent identification of plastic bins in various colors, sizes, and surface conditions.

Detection of bins of any color or condition

The O6 easily detects bins of any color, even when surfaces are faded or worn from use, ensuring reliable detection in material handling or sorting systems.

Overhead detection of small plastic bins

Bottom-mounted sensors can be installed in compact areas to detect small bins as they travel over conveyors. The O6’s compact rectangular housing and flexible connector options make it suitable for space-constrained applications.

Package presence on palletizers and depalletizers

In palletizing and depalletizing systems, suction tables move and stack packages, and accurate package detection is vital to avoid misplacement or cycle delays. False trips or missed detections can disrupt workflow and reduce machine availability.

The O6 sensor offers high reliability in these environments, with a precise red light spot for easy alignment and setup. Its durable build and background suppression prevent errors caused by reflective surfaces or variable target types, ensuring stable operation in automated palletizing processes.

Other applications

Edge detection for material alignment

During ticket printing and rewinding operations, maintaining the straightness of moving ticket lines is critical for proper roll formation. O6H sensors equipped with background suppression detect the edges of the tickets without triggering on the underlying table, ensuring accurate alignment throughout the process.

This application highlights the precision and narrow light spot of the O6, making it ideal for fine detection tasks in fast-moving print and label systems.

Performance in wet and hygienic environments

With an IP69K-rated stainless steel housing, the O6 sensor is built to withstand high-pressure, high-temperature washdowns, making it perfect for food and beverage applications. It maintains optical performance even when water droplets are present on the lens, ensuring reliable detection in steamy or wet conditions.

This robust design ensures longevity and consistent operation in environments that demand both hygiene and durability.
