Should I use a process fitting on the sensor when testing products?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The adapter forms the second sensing probe with the first located under the PEEK tip. As the dielectric value of the media decreases, the LMC requires a higher sensitivity. Without the mass of metal from the adapter, the sensor performance is altered. This is especially true when testing products with very low dielectric already, e.g., powders and oils.

Why is the LMC a better solution than tuning forks?

Accepted Answer

Tuning forks have several inherent problems. Firstly, many viscous and powdered materials can bridge between the forks. This sends a false signal that media is present when it is not, potentially damaging both the product and the process equipment. Secondly, tuning forks are inserted deeply into the process for proper detection. This causes flow obstructions that can reduce throughput. Finally, the blades are subject to breakage, especially in thick, viscous media.
