1. How is the sensor powered when using the data splitter, E43406?

Accepted Answer

The product is designed for retrofitting into existing applications. The IO-Link and SIO paths are galvanically separated, so supply power to the sensor must come from pins 1 and 3 on the SIO side.

2. What does the wiring of the E43406 and E43410 look like and does it pass through both analog and digital outputs to the SIO?

This is the wiring schematic of the E434xx data splitter and the EVC843 (Y cable). The EVC843 guarantees correct wiring:

The E434xx passes straight through to an IO-Link master, which is shown labeled (1) in the image. The other side of the E434xx connects to the EVC843 Y cable.
The EVC843 has connectors, A, B and C. Connector A is labeled (4) in the image and goes to the SIO. Connector B is labled (3) and connects to the IO-link device. Connector C is labeled (2) and connects to the E434xx splitter.

Pins 1 and 3 ensure everything is powered. From the IO-Link device pin 2 (switching/ analog output 2, if available) and pin 5 are passed straight through to the SIO.
Pin 4 which can be output 1 or an IO-Link signal is passed through the E434xx splitter to the IO-Link master but the E434xx splitter can also pass through the switching output to SIO.

Therefore, yes, both signals if available can pass through into the existing SIO side of the application without change in wiring or programming.

3. Does the data splitter work with loop-powered analog devices?

No, because power is required on both pins 1 and 3 on the SIO side.

4. Will the data splitter work with devices that are not IO-Link ready?

Accepted Answer

No. The devices must be IO-Link ready. The accessory does not provide that functionality.

5. Product limits – how many DP's can I fit on one IOL master?

Accepted Answer

Depending on the orientation of the plug on the IO-Link master, it is possible that the converters cannot be screwed in directly next to each other. Then a master port has to be left free between them.

In the first image, two DP's can be mounted next to eachother when oriented with one or more flat sides next to eachother.

The second image illustrates the problem when trying to mount two DP's next to eachother with their widest sides oriented the same way.

You can see the DP in the bottom right port is not fully threaded into the port because it is blocked from threading in straight and is forced on an angle.

6. What is the resolution of DP2200? What is the update rate?

Accepted Answer

The DP2200 has a Resolution of 12 bit, but because of technical reasons, we had to limit this to 1600 steps.

If you look at the scale, then you will see that these 1600 steps will bring a total resolution of 10uA (microampere).

The update rate is not decisive because with this unit IO-Link has a cycle time of 3.2 ms, therefore a much faster update rate would not be useful because these values would never be transmitted.

7. What happens if communication is lost to a master and an IOL to output device is being used?

Accepted Answer

The last value being provided for an output is held.

This means that an analog output on a DP will hold the last value or a discrete output will stay high.

How do we get around this being the case?

With default settings the last value out from the DP would be held, however you can set the "fail-safe" mode for IO-link communication to 'reset value' (value of 1 in the configuration assembly) for any port that a DP1213 is connected to, and this will cause the signal to drive to zero if communications are lost to the master. See example below:

In the PLC, this would be done in the configuration assembly for whatever port number the DP is connected to (I'm using port 6 in the example below with an AL1422 model master)

8. Does the DP2200 work with Type A and Type B ports on the IO-Link masters?

Accepted Answer

The DP2200 works with type A ports without issue.

Due to a compatibility issue with Pin 2 of the B ports, the DP will display the nPrb (no probe) indication showing that it cannot sense a sensor attached. Please use a 3-wire cable from the DP to the IO Link master to work around this issue.

12. What are the typical applications for the DP1603 / DP1613 and how are the splitter cables used?

Accepted Answer

Switching voltages other than 24VDC (voltages from 0 - 32 VDC and 0 – 24 V AC can be switched).
Switch higher load current (such as solenoid valves) for up to 1 A.
Transmit switching signals between electrically separated circuits.

The DP1603/DP1613 can be used in conjunction with an IO-Link master's digital output to switch a higher current load:

As seen in the wiring diagram below, with the DP16xx connected directly to the master, a digital output from the master's port can switch the higher current load through the relay.
Connector C of the EVCA47 connects to the DP16xx relay. The secondary power supply is provided to the relay circuit via Pin 1 on connector B. The outputs from pins 2 and 4 of the relay go to the load via connector A. The outputs tie back to ground via the pin 3 link between connectors A and B.

The DP1603/DP1613 can be used between a sensor output and an actuator without needing a PLC or logic:

The output side of the DP16xx relay is the same as above; however, the way the relay switches the higher current load is via an output from a sensor instead of an IO-Link master port.
The splitter EBC116 is used for ease of wiring so that the sensor can be powered and the power can pass through to also power the DP16xx relay. The EBC116 also allows for the output of the sensor to pass through to the relay to switch it. Connector C of the EBC116 goes to power, then connectors A or B can go to the sensor or DP16xx relay.

13. What are the advantages and limitations of the DP1603 and DP1613?

Accepted Answer

Advantages:

Field mount, IP 67 rating.
M12 connectors for easy connection.
Semiconductor technology - low current consumption, no wear or bouncing.

Limitations:

Not suitable for 230 VAC. Only for voltages < 32 VDC or < 24 VAC.
Currents <1A per channel.
Power supply necessary at the output.

14. Do the DP2302, DP2122 and DP2402 require a master to operate?

Accepted Answer

The DP2302, DP2122 and DP2402 are IO-link enabled devices. Using IO-Link, end users can configure these units’ parameters and collect additional process values and diagnostic data. However, these units’ parameter settings can also be configured directly on the display and used as a stand-alone device without an IO-Link master.
