Compact RFID devices for mobile machines

RFID systems enable contactless identification and data capture, which makes them ideal for use in harsh industrial environments. The compact RFID device, specifically designed for use in mobile machines, automatically detects different attachments, mapping the configuration in the controller with the corresponding settings.

The controller automatically logs when and for how long a specific machine set-up is operated. This enables the generation of data on maintenance intervals and operating times. The data is stored automatically, helping to reduce downtime and boost productivity.

Product benefits

Compact design

The integrated design, combining RFID antenna and evaluation unit in a single housing, simplifies installation and saves space.

High protection rating

The robust design offers protection against dirt, dust and moisture, making it ideal for harsh environments.

Wide operating temperature range

The sensors function reliably in both hot and cold extremes.

High shock and vibration resistance

They are built to withstand the intense shocks and vibrations that often occur in mobile machines.

CAN interface

Thanks to the CAN interface, the sensors are optimised for use with ecomatmobile controllers from ifm.

E1 approval

Our RFID sensors have E1 approval, which confirms their reliability and safety in road traffic. Ideal for use in mobile machines.

General system overview

The RF identification system for 13.56 MHz enables non-contact reading from and/or writing to RFID transponders (ID tags).
The compact read/write heads include, in addition to the antenna, the complete evaluation and the interface to CANopen. Therefore, the devices can be directly connected to control systems of vehicles and mobile machines.
The robust compact RFID device with CANopen interface has been developed for identification tasks in agricultural machines, municipal vehicles and construction machines. It clearly identifies different attachments and ensures the right one is chosen. In this way, the use of counterfeit products can be prevented. Moreover, operating times of machines and attachments can be recorded, e.g. to schedule maintenance intervals.

The compact RFID devices can also be used for driver identification, e.g. to detect a user’s assigned “user level”. This allows authorisations to be clearly assigned, enhancing both operational security and efficiency. By uniquely identifying users and linking them to specific user levels, the system ensures that only authorised persons can perform certain actions. This helps prevent operating errors.
