Flush pressure sensor for industrial applications
The right choice for restricted spaces and viscous media
Wherever viscous media such as adhesives, glue or sealants are conveyed through pipes under exact and high pressure, the compact G1/2 pressure transmitter PL15 is the ideal choice.
Explore the features of the PL15 in our interactive model.
What our customers say
“The flush design of the PL15 offers no dead space for media to adhere to. No paint or rinsing residues can build up and compromise the quality of our paints.”
Maintenance Manager -Relius Farbenwerke GmbH
“The ceramic measuring cell permanently withstands demanding, abrasive media and provides good long-term stability.”
Customer in ceramics production
“Thanks to the small size of the PL15, we can reduce the clear space around the measuring points, which makes our plant more compact while still ensuring easy sensor installation and removal.”
Riko Slodowitz - Junior Product Manager at ABEL GmbH
“IO-Link ensures precise and loss-free transmission of the pressure to the control system at any time. Another benefit for us is the additional temperature output, which eliminates the need for another measuring point.”
Maximilian Meurer - Measurement and Control Engineer at EnviroFALK GmbH.
Use cases
No deposits, no collision-related failures
RELIUS Farbenwerke GmbH is Europe’s leading manufacturer of paints and varnishes. The paints are stored in large tanks and dispensed using a pigging system. To achieve this, the pig is pushed by water from the launching station to the receiving station at the filling plant. Once the filling process is completed, the pig is pushed back to the launching station by compressed air, pressing the rinsing water out of the pipe. The exact position of the pig in the launching and receiving stations is determined using pressure sensors. As there is only little space between the sensor and the pig, they are in contact now and then.
PL15 pressure sensor in ceramic production
In ceramic production, glaze is used to finish the surface of most products. Excessive glazes from the spraying process are collected by means of a water curtain and fed into a treatment process. In the downstream plant sections, the remaining water is separated from the ceramic solids by a filter press. Complete separation can only be achieved if all filter cloths are fully functional.
The PL15 pressure sensor determines the holding pressure of the press, which provides information about the condition of the filter cloths. The customer can schedule maintenance precisely, ensuring efficient separation and reuse of water and ceramics.
Less installation space and fewer measuring points required
The manufacturer ABEL GmbH specializes in highly efficient diaphragm pumps suitable for abrasive and aggressive media, such as those encountered in the mining sector. The sensors are used to continuously monitor the pressure and temperature of the hydraulic fluid and of the medium being pumped in order to prevent overheating or overload of the pump.
“We develop our pumps with the aim of offering our customers pumps with maximum reliability and minimal space requirements.”
Increase precision, reduce measuring points
For more than 30 years, EnviroFALK GmbH has been designing and manufacturing water treatment systems for a wide range of industries worldwide.
The company uses the PL15 pressure sensor in various applications, including in a multi-stage filtration system. In the future, the sensor will also be used for hydrostatic level measurement in various tank applications, which will reduce the variety of types in the system as well as the storage costs.
Pump control in the slurry tanker
The traditional company Landmaschinen Wienhoff GmbH has been active in agricultural machinery construction for more than 90 years. The company's main focus is the manufacture and trade of slurry tankers and their distribution technology.
In order to fill the tank of the slurry tanker at the farmer's, the slurry is sucked in using a vacuum and pumped into the tank. The vacuum must be kept in view at all times to avoid cavitation and the pump running dry.
While the pressure was previously viewed using analogue gauges and the pump was controlled manually, the PL1504 now monitors the pressure and communicates the values digitally to the control system, which controls the pump accordingly. The digital transmission of the data not only has a positive effect on machine protection, it also enables remote diagnosis, which can reduce the system's downtime in the event of servicing.
When it arrives in the field, the slurry is pumped from the tank to the attachment via the pump before it is then distributed on the field. To keep the application rate constant and the distribution clean, the PL1504 monitors the line pressure and ensures a constant minimum pressure.
Further typical applications
- Use and dosing of glues, adhesives, foams and other highly viscous media
- Use in snow guns: The flush design ensures that the water in the high-pressure circuit can drain and does not freeze in the process connection
- Use in part cleaning systems: The flush design of PL15 prevents clogging of the pressure channel, e.g. due to chips or foams
- Use in media containing solids, e.g. in waste water treatment
System connection
Sealing concept
The sealing concept depends on the way the sensor is installed.
- Adaptation with existing welding adapter
In combination with an O-ring, the PL sensor can be used at the sealing edge at pressures of up to 60 bar. At pressures >60 bar, the seal between housing and process connection is used. - Using the ifm welding adapter E30509
When using the ifm welding adapter, a metal-on-metal sealing edge is formed directly at the sensor tip. This prevents fluid media such as paints or lacquers from entering the threaded area of the measurement connection under high pressure, from depositing there, or from mixing / contaminating subsequent media further into the process. - Installation in a block or a pipe
When installing in a standard ½ threaded hole, the seal between housing and process connection is used.
Added value thanks to IO-Link
Conversion losses are excluded via digital communication, and external influences, such as magnetic fields, have no effect on the signal quality.
The pressure curve is constantly monitored and allows you to keep an eye on your process at all times. As the transmitter also transfers the temperature of the medium, there is no need for a second measuring point.
The pressure sensor can be configured quickly and easily via IO-Link.
