1. Does the SM Foodmag need straight pipe runs before and after the unit?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the SMF requires straight pipe runs at the inlet and outlet of the sensor. This necessity arises because the SMF features a full-bore measurement channel, which prevents control of flow characteristics. For more information, please refer to our Installation guidelines page.

2. How can I connect existing separate cables for power and outputs to the SM Foodmag?

Accepted Answer

We designed the ZZ8903 kit to simplify wiring in this situation. This kit includes field wireables and a special splitter to connect separate power and output cables to the SM Foodmag.

3. How do I know if my medium is conductive enough?

Accepted Answer

All magmeters require a minimum medium conductivity for the technology to measure flow. Medium conductivity of at least 5 µS/cm is required for the SMF family.

4. If the conductivity of my liquid changes, will the SMF sanitary magmeter be affected?

Accepted Answer

No. So long as the conductivity is at least 5 µS/cm, the magmeter will perform to specifications; higher or varying conductivity will not affect performance. Media with conductivity below the 5 µS/cm threshold produce low induction voltages, making it difficult or impossible to distinguish the difference between the signal voltages and noise voltages.

5. What is the impact of temperature, pressure and viscosity changes of my liquid?

Negligible when within our published specifications.

6. What happens with bubbles in the medium?

Accepted Answer

Uncovered electrodes, due to air bubbles or because the pipe is not full will cause measuring errors. The SM Foodmag utilizes a 3-point fluid detection system to more accurately predict if there is air in the pipe. One of the points is located at the top of the measuring tube. If there are expected air gaps or large amounts of bubbles in the system, it is recommended to mount the SMF in a vertical orientation with flow going up.

8. What is the ZH4217 and how do I use it or another external pushbutton to reset the totalizer?

Accepted Answer

The ZH4217 is a kit consisting of KT6301 pushbutton, E12380 cover for the pushbutton labeled "OFF", and EVC847 y-splitter.

Setup

On the SMF, change OU2 to [In.D] and Din2 to [HIGH] using the step-by-step procedures below. These procedures should be used with any external pushbutton reset.
When using the ZH4217, connect the KT6301 to channel B of the EVC847 and connect the SMF sensor to channel A. Then, connect power to channel C with pin 1 to +24 VDC and pin 3 to ground.

The totalizer will be reset to zero when the pushbutton is pressed.

For 4-pushbutton SMFs

Press the top device key to the right of the unit's display to enter the menu. This has a dot to the left of the key on the display and is the [Enter] button.
Press [Enter] on the cog symbol to enter the settings menu.
Press [▼] to OUT2, press [Enter] button.
Press [Enter] on ou2.
Toggle through the selections with the [▲] or [▼] button, until [In.D] is displayed. Press [Enter]. (ou2 will be displayed)
Press [▼] to DIn2. Briefly press [Enter].
Toggle through the selections with the [▲] or [▼] button, until [HIGH] is displayed. Press [Enter].

9. What if I need two analog outputs?

The EIO104 converter quickly and easily converts IO-Link process values into two 4...20 mA signals. This means that IO-Link sensors can be easily connected to existing system and control structures.
