ifm receives ‘Factory of the Year’ award for the Sibiu site in the ‘Excellent series production’ category

A.T. Kearney and the European business magazine ‘Produktion’ have been presenting the ‘Factory of the Year’ award since 1992.

The competition, which identifies leaders in the field of manufacturing, is considered one of the most prestigious industrial competitions in Europe. For the year 2023, ifm won the award in the ‘Excellent series production’ category for its production in Sibiu, Romania. It goes without saying that the award was received with great enthusiasm by the persons in charge at ifm. "The jury rated us as outstanding, especially in the area of agility," says a delighted Ralf Mitterer, who is the responsible ifm location manager for the Sibiu site: "This shows how well we have coped with the pandemic and the raw materials crisis." The site made good use of the time to become more flexible and could make improvements through the supply chain. The competition focuses heavily on company key figures and indicators that provide a very good overview of the status and development over time. The jury thus recognised the company’s striving for continuous improvement. "On the one hand, this relates to the improvement of our KPIs," says Mitterer, "and on the other hand, to our efforts to improve in many other areas." Another positive aspect for the jury was the small software team that is available for local projects at the Sibiu site.  

As a university city, Sibiu is one of the biggest innovation and technology drivers of the region, and ifm is one of the most important employers in the area with over 650 employees. For the traditional company, this was the reason to expand the location with a new factory including headquarters for sales last year.
