Around the world in the Volkswagen ID. Buzz

2026-10-05

After 99,767 kilometres in 441 days on the road, an extraordinary journey has come to an end: travelling in an all-electric vehicle, Rainer Zietlow toured a total of 92 countries, setting a new world record. As a sponsor of the ID. Buzz World Tour, ifm was proud to be part of this remarkable achievement.

Rainer Zietlow in a VW ID. Buzz

Taking to the road in July 2025, Rainer Zietlow subsequently travelled through 92 countries in an all-electric Volkswagen ID. Buzz.

Rainer Zietlow is renowned for his spectacular long-distance journeys around the globe, with which he has already set eight GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS!™. From his latest adventure, he has now returned with yet another record-breaking achievement: on a single continuous journey, he drove a fully electric vehicle through 92 countries.

Rainer Zietlow and his team had been preparing for this trip for two years. Long-distance travel with an electric vehicle presents numerous challenges, including varying charging infrastructures, unpredictable road conditions and logistics that require extensive planning.

Equipped with an 86-kWh battery to maximise range, an on-board AC/DC charger compatible with various charging systems outside Europe, and additional adapters for a wide variety of charging stations, the Volkswagen ID completed the long distance reliably and reached its destination without any technical issues.

Via a live tracking map the itinerary could be followed from Germany through Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, South and North America, and the Middle East. Daily photos and videos captured not only stunning landscapes but also highlighted the many encounters with local people and cultures. Each stop was followed by a detailed travelogue, allowing followers to catch up on the experiences.

Sponsored by ifm

As one of the sponsors, ifm supported the ID. Buzz World Tour. Events held at Volkswagen production sites in various countries, including Hungary, Spain, Brazil and the USA, provided valuable opportunities for face-to-face discussions and for forging new contacts.

On Monday 21 September 2026, the Volkswagen ID. Buzz also stopped off at the Glückaufhaus in Essen. There, Rainer Zietlow personally thanked Michael Marhofer for supporting the project and symbolically presented the certificates.

We are delighted that, as a German company, we had the opportunity to carry out this sponsorship programme with one of the largest car manufacturers. The partnership enabled us to further strengthen our network within Volkswagen and raise ifm’s profile among key decision-makers. In addition to creating new business opportunities, it also gave us the chance to get to know Rainer Zietlow, an exceptional individual who brings people and cultures together.
