The ifm range of collision warning systems is expanding
ifm is launching a new collision warning system. In addition to the O3M372 multi-sensor platform, which covers a wide range of applications, the O2M500 AI is now available: a compact 2D AI camera designed for area monitoring on vehicles with restricted manoeuvrability, with a particular focus on person detection. While the O3M can process both 2D data and PMD sensor data for a wide variety of applications, ifm developed the robust O2M 2D camera to help prevent accidents involving people, even under challenging visibility conditions.
The new compact O2M collision warning system minimises the risk of accidents in warehouses, on construction sites and in municipal applications.
With the new O2M500 AI camera, ifm is expanding its portfolio for mobile machines with an intelligent solution for person detection and accident prevention. The camera reliably detects people at distances of up to 30 metres and alerts drivers to potential hazards in the working area at an early stage. Developed specifically for applications such as forklift trucks, excavators, wheel loaders, road rollers and refuse collection vehicles, it enhances safety even under challenging operating conditions.
Thanks to integrated AI processing, powered by a high-performance processor and Neural Processing Unit (NPU), all image analysis is performed directly within the camera, eliminating the need for an external processing unit. The system delivers reliable detection results even in bright sunlight, at dusk and when people are wearing dark clothing. Contamination of the front lens is automatically detected and reported to ensure long-term operational reliability. An integrated dashcam function with 5 GB of storage also enables the recording of safety-related incidents.
Its robust design, featuring a die-cast aluminium housing, IP6K7/IP6K9K protection ratings and an operating temperature range from -40 °C to +85 °C, makes the camera ideally suited for demanding off-highway applications. In addition, the O2M500 supports customer-specific programming and OEM-specific AI models, offering maximum flexibility for machine manufacturers.
With the new O3M372, ifm is introducing the world’s first AI-powered 2D/3D camera with PMD technology specifically developed for use on mobile machines.
By combining AI-based person detection, proven 3D obstacle detection and intelligent sensor fusion, the O3M372 sets new standards for safety in off-highway applications. The fully integrated system reliably detects people at distances of up to 25 metres and accurately distinguishes between people and other objects. Graduated warning messages are issued only when there is a genuine risk of collision, thereby reducing false alarms and unnecessary driver distraction.
Powerful AI processing takes place directly within the camera, eliminating the need for additional hardware for obstacle and person detection.
In addition, the system continuously monitors itself and detects issues such as contamination of the front lens or voltage drops. An integrated live video stream via Ethernet enables straightforward integration into modern machine architectures.
Featuring a robust die-cast aluminium housing, IP67/IP69K protection ratings and high resistance to vibration and shock, the O3M372 is designed for the most demanding operating conditions. In addition, users can run custom logic and functions directly on the camera, enabling the implementation of tailored safety and automation concepts.
