Use the advantages of IO-Link

Today the user gets completely new options with IO-Link sensors from ifm. The transfer of cyclical and acyclical data, for example, as well as messages in both directions are implemented. Furthermore IO-Link has a lot to offer:

IO-Link data transfer is based on a 24 V signal and is therefore extremely insensitive to external influence. IO-Link sensors are connected with standard M12 connectors. Screened cables and associated grounding are no longer necessary.


To monitor the system pressure in a hydraulic system, PN type ifm pressure sensors are used. Process signals, events and parameters are transferred to the master via IO-Link. Furthermore up to 8 IO-Link sensors can be directly connected to the master which transfers the data to the controller via PROFINET, EtherCat, Ethernet/IP or PROFIBUS..

No measured value losses



The entire measured value transmission is digital. Transmission that is prone to errors and calculation of analogue signals is replaced. The digitally transferred measured values can be directly displayed in the control room..

Analogue or digital with IO-Link

Today:
Analogue signals are digitised via A/D converter and scaled in the PLC. This leads to inaccuracies of the actual measuring value.

IO-Link:
Measured values are digitally transferred from the sensor to the controller. That is why the transferred value is always identical with the measured value.

The LR level sensor is used to measure the level on a hydraulic power pack. The setting of all parameters and programming of the switch points can be made via two programming buttons or IO-Link. During replacement the parameters are automatically copied to the new sensor. They do not have to be entered manually.

Easy sensor replacement



The IO-Link master stores all parameter of the connected sensors. After replacement the previous parameters are automatically written to the new sensor. Looking up the required sensor settings is not necessary.

ifm pressure sensors of type PI detect the level in tanks. To avoid tampering caused by subsequent writing settings of the sensor via the operating keys it is possible to lock these keys via IO-Link.

Identification



IO-Link ensures unambiguous device identification. Sensors with IO-Link capability are clearly identified by vendor and device ID. Exclusive use of original spares is ensured..




Identification and detection of interchangeable tools in series connections.
The O5D photoelectric sensors detect if the selected tool is present in the fixture. IO-Link ensures that only a sensor of the same typeis used for replacement.

Wire break detection



With IO-Link transfer of process and service data takes place simultaneously. Wire-break or short-circuit is immediately detected by the master. The diagnostic data can be accessed even during operation.


The flow rate in a cooling circuit is precisely monitored using magnetic-inductive inline volumetric flow sensors of the SM series. If an error occurs, the diagnostic data is transferred from the master to the controller. The failed sensor is identified unambiguously.
